1/43 Little Monte Carlo Rally Proxy, September 21 and 22, 2024.

First of all, I apologize for writing this announcement in English, but I can speak very little German and do not want to risk using Google Translate for this. My good friend Peter Pfister has kindly offered to translate this for me.

I am pleased to announce that the 2024 1/43 Little Monte Carlo Rally Proxy will take place over the weekend of September 21 and 22, 2024.

This event will be run as 2 separate rallies'

The first rally, on Saturday 21 September, is for ready to run 1/43 RALLY cars such as Carrera Go, SCX Compact, WRC, Artin, Jouef etc.

The main rally, on Sunday 22 September, is for 1/43 scale models of actual cars that competed on the Monte Carlo Rally up to, and including, 2004.

Both events will be on the Petiturini 1/43 slot rally track. Routed wood with latex paint, copper tape, and approximately 20 metres in length,

All cars will be driven for at least 30 laps in each direction, the combined best laptimes of each car will determine it's finishing position.

Timing is by a Carrera lap timer, but this may change before the event. I use a 45 ohm Parma eco controller or equivalent.

Power supply is variable between 1.5 and 19 volts at 3 amps. Because of the many gradients and tight turns, each car will be tried at various volts to find the setting that gives the best laptime.

The entry fee for a team of up to 3 cars is £14 to cover return postage. Note Each team may enter 2 cars in one rally with one in the other rally.

Rules for the Ready to run rally. September 21, 2024

As bought except for:

All cars must be fitted with a rotating/swivel guide flag, no pin guides.

No silicone tyres, but I strongly suggest fitting urethane tyres to the rear to aid the cars on the gradients.

All tyres must touch the road.

Weight may be added as needed.

Repainting/ reliveries are allowed.

scale models of actual cars that competed in the Monte Carlo Rally up to, and including, 1986.

Clear windows and have a crew.

Body materials: Free, but no metal bodies.

Body modifications, eg extended wheel arches, over sized wheels etc, only allowed if the 1/1 car had them

Chassis: Free

Motor: Free

Tyres, scale in diameter, but free in width. No silicone tyres. All tyres must touch the road.

Concours de Elegance: The organizer determines the best-looking car

General rules:

No liquids or similar may escape from the car, no braid juice (or similar). The car must not contaminate the track, no tire glue on the outside of the tires, etc.

Yes Kay, I have finally given it a name!

As for 'getting messy', flour may look good, but would make it difficult to get good laps from 30 + cars. So I will just be staying with regular snowy scenery!

Was das „Unordentliche“ betrifft, sieht Mehl vielleicht gut aus, würde es aber schwierig machen, mit über 30 Autos gute Runden zu fahren. Ich werde also einfach bei der normalen Schneelandschaft bleiben!

Heute habe ich zum ersten Mal meinen alten Carrera-Laptimer auf der neuen Strecke eingesetzt.

Mit meinem am einfachsten zu fahrenden Auto, einem kleinen Polistil CanAm-Auto, fuhr ich mehrere Runden im 17,5-Sekunden-Bereich, ohne mich zu sehr anzustrengen. Ich werde am Wochenende weitere Runden mit meinen Rallyeautos fahren.

Today I used my old Carrera laptimer for the first time on the new track.

Using my easiest to drive car, a little Polistil CanAm car, I did several laps in the 17,5 second area without trying too hard. I will do more laps using my rally cars at the weekend.

Ich habe heute noch etwas mehr getestet und zweifelsfrei bewiesen, dass Urethan-Hinterreifen, eine Flaggenführung und etwas zusätzliches Gewicht unerlässlich sind, um auf dieser Strecke eine konkurrenzfähige Zeit zu erreichen.

Ich habe eine Drehführung an einem Carrera Go Mini Countryman angebracht. Mit dieser Anleitung und etwas mehr Gewicht ließe sich zwar etwas bewegen, aber die Originalreifen waren einfach nicht griffig genug für schnelle Rundenzeiten. Irgendwann muss ich also eine Reifenbestellung bei William aufgeben!

Der Jaguar drehte in mehreren Runden um die 18,5 Sekunden, eine ganze Sekunde langsamer als das kleine CanAm-Auto, also gibt es dort noch viel zu tun.

Während die Trial-and-Error-Tests weitergehen, werde ich weitere Details zum optimalen Gewicht usw. veröffentlichen.

I did a little more testing today and proved beyond doubt that urethane rear tyres, a flag guide and some extra weight are essential to get down to a competitive time on this track.

I fitted a swivel guide to a Carrera Go Mini Countryman. With this guide and some extra weight it could get round, but the original tyres were just not grippy enough for quick laptimes. So I will have to get a tyre order into William at sometime!

The Jaguar turned in several laps around the 18.5 seconds, a full second slower than the little CanAm car, so work still to do there.

A the trial and error testing continues, I will post more details of optimum weight etc.

Unter Berücksichtigung einiger gültiger Kommentare ist der Stichtag für Autos im Haupt-2024 1/43 Little Monte Carlo Rally Proxy nun 2004, was den Einbau der meisten Heller/Airfix-Bausätze zulässt.

MAJOR CHANGE IN ELIGIBILITY DATE

Having taken into consideration some valid comments, the cut of date for cars in the main 2024 1/43 Little Monte Carlo Rally Proxy is now 2004, allowing in most of the Heller/Airfix kits.

They still have to comply with the rule: all cars must be scale models of actual cars that competed in the Monte Carlo Rally up to, and including, 2004.

Erster Test des Jahres auf meiner Rallye-Strecke PetiTurini, dem Austragungsort des Little Monte Carlo Rally Proxy 2024 im Maßstab 1:43.

Einige Freunde baten mich, einige Nicht-Rallye-Autos auszuprobieren, um einige Ideen auszuprobieren. 2 waren Artin-Autos mit 12-V-Artin-Motoren und 4 waren selbstgebaute Allradautos mit Messingchassis.

Ich habe diese Autos letzte Woche kurz gefahren, mit wenig Erfolg.

Heute Morgen hatten alle außer dem 4WD-Truck immer noch Probleme und konnten nicht annähernd die Zeit erreichen, die mein winziges Polistil CanAm-Auto zuvor gefahren war (16,5 Sekunden). Der Truck schaffte zwar eine Geschwindigkeit von 16,7, war aber beängstigend, da er überall in die Landschaft einschlug und häufig ausfiel, sodass ich ihn nicht noch härter drückte.

Also habe ich die Schiene mit einem feuchten Tuch abgewischt und trocknen lassen.

Die Nachmittagssitzung begann genauso, dann fand ein Auto sein Tempo.

Die beiden Artins, die sogar mit 12-V-Motoren ausgestattet waren, litten unter dem hohen Schwerpunkt, der durch die schweren Motoren verursacht wurde, und unter den Reifen, die aus der Karosserie herausragten. Diese Autos konnten 25-Sekunden-Runden fahren, aber jeder Versuch, schneller zu fahren, führte dazu, dass die Hinterreifen von der Landschaft abprallten und das Auto aus der Spur rutschte.

Der kleinste Allradantrieb war ein NSU Prinz. Da es fast keine Bodenfreiheit gab, hatte dieses Auto immer Schwierigkeiten, auch nur eine Runde zu fahren.
Tatsächlich waren die meisten Probleme des großen Lkw auch auf die zu geringe Bodenfreiheit am Heck zurückzuführen.

Die letzten beiden Autos, beide Porsche 911, unterschieden sich in der Leistung stark voneinander. Das orange-gelbe Auto konnte keine ganzen Runden fahren, da die Leitflagge nach vorne zeigte, was dazu führte, dass das Auto bei jeder Kurve aus der Spur geriet.

Der orangefarbene Porsche, der den ganzen Vormittag über Probleme hatte, fand am Nachmittag plötzlich sein Tempo und fuhr eine Rundenzeit von etwa 16,45 Sekunden, um sich dann drei Runden hintereinander bei etwa 16,11 einzupendeln. Dann kam eine Zeit von 15,95. Ich habe es noch einige Runden lang versucht, aber danach waren es wieder 6,11 Sekunden. Dieses Auto wog etwa 47 Gramm, genau wie der Artins, aber das Gewicht war niedrig.

Schlussfolgerungen:

Wie bereits festgestellt, verfügen Artins mit Motoren in Originalgröße nicht über genügend Stabilität für wellige, kurvenreiche Rallye-Strecken. Außerdem werden alle Autos, deren Hinterräder aus der Karosserie herausragen, nach jedem Kontakt mit der Landschaft aus der Spur geraten.

Alle vier 4WD-Autos hatten Motorkabelkontakte anstelle von Litzen. Diese waren zu weich und verzogen sich durch die ständigen Richtungs- und Steigungsänderungen leicht.

Meine nächsten Tests werden mit einigen meiner selbst gebauten Rallye-Autos mit Messing- oder 3Dp-Chassis durchgeführt. Es wird interessant sein zu sehen, ob sie diese Rundenzeiten unterbieten können!

1st test of the year on my PetiTurini rally track, the venue for the 2024 1/43 Little Monte Carlo Rally Proxy.

Some friends asked me to try some non rally cars to test out some ideas. 2 were Artin cars fitted with Artin 12v motors and 4 were scratchbuilt 4WD cars with brass chassis.

I ran these cars briefly last week with little success.

This morning all except the 4WD truck were still struggling and could not get close to the time previously set by my tiny Polistil CanAm car, 16.5 seconds. The truck did do a 16.7 , but was scary, hitting scenery everywhere and crashing out often, so I did not push it any harder.

So I gave the track a wipe down with a damp cloth and left it to dry.

The afternoon session started off the same, then 1 car found it's pace.

The 2 Artins, even fitted with 12v motors, suffered from the high centre of gravity caused by the heavy motors and from having tyres sticking out from the body. These cars could cruise around doing 25 second laps, but any attempt at going quicker resulted in the rear tyres bouncing off the scenery and deslotting the car.

The smallest 4WD was an NSU Prinz. With it's almost no ground clearance, this car was always going to struggle even to do a lap.
Indeed most of the big truck's problems were also caused by very little ground clearance at the rear.

The last 2 cars, both Porsche 911s, were very different in performance to each other. The orange and yellow car could not complete whole laps because it's guide flag pointed up at the front, causing the car to deslot at every turn.

The orange Porsche, which had problems all morning, suddenly found its pace in the afternoon, and was lapping around 16.45 seconds, then settled in at around 16.11 3 laps in a row. Then came a 15. 95. I tried for several laps more, but it was back to 6.11s after that.This car weighed around 47 grammes, as did the Artins, but the weight was low down.

Conclusions:

As previously found, Artins with original sized motors do not have enough stability for undulating, twisty, rally tracks. Also, any cars that have rear wheels protruding from the body will deslot after any contact with scenery.

All 4 4WD cars had motor wire contacts as opposed to braids. These were too soft and were easily distorted by the contant changes of direction and gradients.

My next tests will be with some of my own scratchbuilt rally cars with brass or 3Dp chassis. It will be interesting to see if they can beat these lap times!

Ich habe viele Tests auf meiner Petit-Turini-Rallyestrecke durchgeführt.

Folgendes funktioniert am besten:

Alle meine Autos haben Pfütze-Schwenkführungen.

Das ideale Autogewicht liegt bei etwa 50 bis 55 g, wobei das Gewicht hinten deutlich höher ist als vorne.

Fast alle meine Autos haben maßstabsgetreue Reifen und funktionieren sehr gut. Breitere Reifen funktionieren vielleicht, bieten aber keinen Vorteil.

Meine bisher beste Rundenzeit fuhr mein Mercedes 220SE, dicht gefolgt von meinem Carrera Go Mini Countryman, beide im niedrigen 16-Sekunden-Bereich. Ich gehe jedoch davon aus, dass diese Zeiten mit weiteren Tests kürzer werden.

I have done much testing on my Petit Turini rally track. Here is what works best:

All of my cars have Pfuetze swivel guides.

The ideal car weight is around 50 to 55g, with much more weight at the rear than at the front.

Nearly all of my cars have scale width tyres, and work very well. Wider tyres may work, but offer no advantage.

My best lap time so far has been made by my Mercedes 220SE, closely followed by my Carrera Go Mini Countryman, both in the low 16 seconds. But I do expect these times to fall with further testing.
